Finishing projects

How to finish a project?

To escape the cycle of unfinished work, the author developed the following strategies:

  1. Define "Done" from the Start: Set clear criteria for what constitutes a finished project to prevent scope creep.
  2. Embrace MVP: Focus on releasing a minimal viable product (MVP) rather than aiming for perfection.
  3. Time-Box Projects: Set a deadline to create urgency and avoid endless iterations.
  4. Practice Finishing Small Things: Build the habit of finishing by completing smaller projects or tasks regularly.
  5. Separate Ideation from Implementation: Log new ideas for future projects instead of acting on them immediately.
  6. Celebrate Completions: Reward yourself when you finish a project, reinforcing the habit of completion.
  7. Embrace Accountability: Find an accountability partner or make public commitments to stay motivated.
